Commander Shepard is the player-created protagonist of BioWare's Mass Effect trilogy — gender, appearance, and dialogue leanings carry across three games, which was still uncommon when the series debuted.
The structure is one escalating galactic crisis told in three acts. Choices made early still surface in finales — the Mass Effect 2 suicide mission in particular rewards the squad relationships you invested dozens of hours into.
