Retro Game Collector Glossary
Short definitions for terms we use on GameOrder — and across the hobby. Tap a term for the full article.
- CIB (Complete In Box)
A complete retail copy: game media, case, manual, and inserts.
- Loose Cartridge
A game sold without its original box or manual — often just the cart or disc.
- Value Gap
The difference between CIB price and loose price — a signal of collector demand.
- Delisted Games
Titles removed from digital storefronts, often permanently.
- Graded Games
Professionally authenticated and slabbed games with a numeric or letter grade.
- Region Locked
Software that only runs on hardware from the same region (e.g. NTSC-U vs PAL).
- Reproduction Cart
Unofficial game on a blank cartridge, sold openly — not the same as a counterfeit passed off as real.
- Sealed Game
Unopened copy in original factory shrink; huge premiums vs CIB and a different hobby than playing.
- NTSC
North America / Japan 60Hz video standard — affects compatibility with PAL and region-locked hardware.
- First Print
Initial production run — often original inserts, no budget re-label, and a price bump over later pressings.
- PAL
Europe / Australia 50Hz standard; some exclusives, different box sizes, and its own collector scene.
