Loose Cartridge Meaning

In retro collecting, loose means the game media only — no original box, no manual.

Definition

A loose cartridge (or loose disc) is just the game: the cart or disc by itself, with no retail packaging. Contrast with CIB (Complete In Box).

Price impact

Loose copies typically sell for about 40–70% less than a comparable CIB in the same condition — the gap is the value gap.

When loose is fine

If you only want to play, loose is often the cheapest way to get a working copy. Many collectors start loose and upgrade later.

When to avoid loose

For graded submissions, sealed goals, or a complete collection, you'll need CIB or better. See graded games for slabbed copies.
