Geralt of Rivia

Geralt of Rivia is the player character across CD Projekt Red's Witcher trilogy — a mutated monster hunter working contract to contract in a morally gray fantasy setting. Dry humor, potion prep before big fights, and branchy quest writing turned him into one of the most quoted RPG leads of the 2010s.

The figure originates in Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski's prose series. The games tell their own continuity adjacent to the novels — informed by the books, but not a beat-for-beat adaptation of every short story.

Games featuring Geralt (release order)

  • The Witcher (2007)
  • The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings (2011)
  • The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (2015)
  • Hearts of Stone (2015, expansion)
  • Blood and Wine (2016, expansion)

Announced follow-ups focus on other characters — notably Ciri — so Geralt's arc in the CDPR trilogy is largely self-contained on the timeline above.
